Arrest made in altercation that left 49ers fan in coma

Front of SoFi Stadium

A San Francisco 49ers fan was involved in a violent altercation outside SoFi Stadium during the NFC Championship Game on Sunday that left him hospitalized, and police have made an arrest in connection with the incident.

Inglewood Mayor James Butts said in a news conference on Friday morning that police have arrested 33-year Bryan Alexis Cifuentes of Los Angeles. Investigators identified Cifuentes after reviewing security footage, and the suspect voluntarily accompanied officers to the Inglewood Police Department. Cifuentes was arrested for suspicion of assault by means to produce great bodily injury, which is a felony. He has since posted $30,000 bond.

Cifuentes is accused of beating 40-year-old Daniel Luna in a SoFi Stadium parking lot and leaving him unconscious. Security showed Luna pushing a person in a Rams jersey, who was later identified as Cifuentes, and then turning away. Cifuentes allegedly retaliated by pushing Luna and punching him in the face. Luna was found unconscious a short time later by stadium security.

Luna was taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where he was placed in a medically induced coma. Butts said the Luna’s condition had neither improved nor deteriorated as of Friday morning.

The incident brings back memories of a 2011 parking lot attack outside Dodger Stadium that left a San Francisco Giants fan with brain damage.
