Baker Mayfield will be playing out the final year of his contract without a new agreement.
Mayfield is reporting to training camp on Tuesday without a new deal, according to Jenna Laine and Jeremy Fowler of ESPN. Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have made little progress on a new contract, and while there is still a remote possibility they could come to an agreement, that is still not expected to happen before Mayfield’s self-imposed training camp deadline.

Mayfield has said since June that contract talks with the Bucs were not progressing as he had hoped. He is entering the final season of his three-year, $100 million deal, a contract that has left him underpaid relative to many of his peers at the quarterback position. He has said he will no longer negotiate with the Buccaneers once training camp begins in order to keep his focus solely on football.
The lack of a contract leaves Mayfield with an uncertain future. There is some reason to believe that he might wind up playing in 2027 on the franchise tag, which is an outcome he is supposedly okay with.
Mayfield, 31, threw for 3,693 yards with 26 touchdowns and 11 interceptions last season. He was, however, playing through some fairly significant injuries for much of the year.
