Baker Mayfield has kept quiet on social media this offseason, but he opened up on Tuesday evening with a statement shared to his Twitter account.

The Cleveland Browns quarterback shared his statement amid uncertainty regarding his status with the team. In the statement, Mayfield expressed his fondness of Cleveland and their fans.

Mayfield’s statement seemed to be prompted by the rumors about his status with the Browns.

Reports this week have said the Browns are pursing Deshaun Watson. We also shared a report on Tuesday saying that Cleveland has fielded trade calls on Mayfield. Earlier reports have suggested the Browns were interested in an upgrade at quarterback.

Mayfield has been inconsistent in his four years in Cleveland, looking good at times and then barely serviceable at other times. Cleveland has had success under him such as in 2020, but his play very clearly held them back during an 8-9 season last year.

It probably isn’t easy for Mayfield to go through the offseason knowing the Browns are looking for an improvement at the position. But none of this means that he won’t be back with the team. All parties are likely hoping the rumors and uncertainty motivate Mayfield to improve his game this offseason and come back healthier and hungrier in 2022.
