Baker Mayfield showing very worrisome trend during training camp
On paper, Baker Mayfield would appear to be the clear favorite to win the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ starting quarterback job ahead of the untested Kyle Trask. However, Mayfield is apparently doing everything he can to bring his position under question.
Mayfield has been throwing a lot of interceptions during training camp drills so far. According to Greg Auman of FOX Sports, Mayfield started camp with seven interceptions in nine practices, and things have not improved much since.
Another pick today for Baker Mayfield, as corner Jamel Dean gets an interception on low throw in 7-on-7. That’s seven INTs in nine practices for Mayfield.

Mayfield threw two more interceptions on Tuesday, bringing his tally up to nine.
Mayfield throws a pick going for Evans in back corner, but Zyon McCollum gets in front for interception. Now two each for the top two QBs today.

This could simply be growing pains, or a sign that Mayfield is more aggressive than Trask, for better or worse. That amount of interceptions is not great by any standard, though.
Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans seems happy with both quarterback choices, but we won’t know much until we see them in preseason games. Mayfield definitely appears to be leaving Trask an opening to seize the starting job, though.
