Bengals fire defensive coordinator Teryl Austin after disaster against Saints
The Cincinnati Bengals have been nothing shy of a disaster on defense over the past three weeks, and the poor performance has cost their defensive coordinator his job.
According to multiple reports, the Bengals have decided to part ways with defensive coordinator Teryl Austin. As ESPN’s Adam Schefter notes, Cincinnati became the first team in the Super Bowl era to allow 500 yards in three consecutive games when they were blown out 51-14 by the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.
Always hard to see teams change coordinators this early, as Cincinnati is now doing. But Bengals are the first team in the Super Bowl era to surrender 500 yards in three straight games.

The Bengals have allowed 45, 34 and 51 points in their last three contests. Austin was in his first season with the team after serving in the same role with the Detroit Lions from 2014-2017, and Cincinnati obviously felt he was at least partially to blame for its embarrassing defensive play as of late.
