Bill Belichick has completely avoided the topic of his future with the New England Patriots when asked about it during interviews and press conferences, but it sounds like the coach has begun to address it behind closed doors.

Mike Giardi of Boston Sports Journal wrote on Tuesday that Belichick has “expressed doubt about his future in New England to the staff at various points over the last few weeks.” The 71-year-old has not had a formal sit-down with Patriots owner Robert Kraft, however.

What that likely means is that even Belichick could not ignore the elephant in the room. Kraft has had numerous opportunities to put the speculation to rest and commit to his six-time Super Bowl champion coach, but he has repeatedly refused to do that.

The Patriots have not won a playoff game since Tom Brady left the team. If they were improving each year, Belichick’s job would probably be safe. Instead, they have gone in the opposite direction. Their roster, which was largely assembled by Belichick, is one of the worst in the NFL.

A recent report claimed Kraft has not yet decided whether he wants Belichick back in 2024 or not. The Patriots proved that they have not completely given up on the season by beating the Denver Broncos on the road on Saturday night, which could make Kraft’s decision even more difficult.

If Belichick and the Patriots do part ways and Belichick wants to keep coaching, there is one team that many people feel would make sense for him.
