Brandin Cooks traded to Texans from Rams for second-round pick

Brandin Cooks

The Houston Texans traded away a top receiver and are adding another.

The Texans are acquiring Brandin Cooks from the Rams. The Houston Chronicle’s John McClain says the Texans are trading the No. 57 overall pick in this year’s draft to the Rams for Cooks in exchange for a 2022 fourth-round pick.

This comes nearly a month after the Texans traded DeAndre Hopkins and a fourth-round pick to Arizona for David Johnson and two picks, including a second-rounder.

Cooks had four straight seasons over 1,000 yards receiving until last year, when he caught 42 passes for 583 yards and two touchdowns for the Rams. He is entering the second year of a 5-year, $80 million deal.

What’s absolutely baffling is what Bill O’Brien continues to do running the Texans front office. His reason for trading Hopkins reportedly is that DeAndre wanted a new contract. If he was willing to pay a receiver big money (which is what Cooks earns), why not just keep Hopkins, who is a vastly superior player?
