Brandon Browner signs with Saints
The New Orleans Saints announced on Thursday that they have signed free agent cornerback Brandon Browner to a three-year contract.
Browner, 30, was a huge reason the New England Patriots were able to revamp their secondary last season and ride it to a Super Bowl victory. He is one of the most physical cornerbacks in the league and excels in press coverage. Browner’s style of play helped Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler get into position to make one of the greatest interceptions you will ever see.
Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports that Browner’s deal is worth somewhere in the range of $18 million over three seasons. The Patriots held a $5.5 million team option on Browner for 2015 but chose not to exercise it.
After the Saints made the shocking decision to trade Jimmy Graham, general manager Mickey Loomis said the move was made so the team can dedicate more resources to improving its defense. Browner is certainly a start.
