Brandon McManus calls out Justin Tucker over 85-yard field goal claim

Justin-Tucker

Brandon McManus, someone who has a lot of experience attempting field goals in high altitude, is not buying Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker’s story about almost converting an 85-yard field goal in warmups.

Earlier this week, Tucker said he thinks he could kick an 84.5-yard field goal in Denver if conditions were perfect. He claims he attempted an 85-yarder in warmups there once and hit the crossbar. McManus, who has been the Broncos kicker for the past two seasons, would love to see it.

“I will give him an all-expense paid trip if he can do it,” McManus told Mike Klis of KUSA. “I’ll pay for his flight, his hotel, if he wants to come out here and do it. I’ll kick with him, I’ll witness it and I’ll vouch to the world that he can do it.”

The longest converted field goal in NFL history was a 64-yarder from Matt Prater, and it came in Denver. Unless Tucker was kicking off a tee, it’s hard to believe he hit the crossbar on an 85-yard attempt. We know Tucker is seeking a new contract based on some lofty demands he made recently, so perhaps he is trying to use that story to his advantage.
