Jets guard Brandon Moore upset about being part of Mark Sanchez butt fumble

New York Jets offensive guard Brandon Moore is a victim of circumstance. He happened to be in the right place at the wrong time last Thursday, and as a result he has become a part of what is sure to be the No. 1 blooper on the Jets’ loaded lowlight reel at the conclusion of the 2012 season.

During New York’s loss to the New England Patriots, Moore was a part of one of the most embarrassing plays of Mark Sanchez’s career. You know, the one where he slid directly into the rear end of one of his lineman, fumbled and gave the Patriots six points. That lineman was Moore, and he is not pleased about having been a part of it.

“I really don’t know what to say about it,” Moore said on Monday according to ESPNNewYork.com. “It’s the weirdest play I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen a lot of plays over my time in football. I’ve seen (the play) enough. The littlest things nowadays turn into Internet sensations.”

When asked if it bothers him that the play has been shown so many times, Moore gave a straight-forward response.

“Yeah, to be part of something like that is … it’s not something you want to be part of,” he said.

In addition to being embarrassed about the play itself, Moore also took issue with the way Cris Collinsworth described it during the NBC broadcast on Thursday night.

“The Collinsworth guy, I’ve never really been a big fan of his,” Moore said. “To portray it that way and to see it on TV … when somebody slides into the back of you, you’re going to fall. That happens a lot in general. You don’t know what’s going on (behind you). I didn’t know what was going on until after the game. During the game, I didn’t know. It’s a good thing.”

I’m with Moore on that one. Collinsworth and a few other analysts talked about how strong Vince Wilfork is and how he drove Moore back into Sanchez, but if you watch the replay that really isn’t how it went down. Moore was actually holding his ground against the 325-pound tackle, and for whatever reason Sanchez went into his slide right behind his guard and smashed his face off his backside. The play wasn’t Moore’s fault.

There’s a reason Fireman Ed has decided to dramatically step down and Sanchez has become a punchline for ESPN commenters. Moore is a very small part of that reason — it just happened to be his butt Sanchez decided to whack his face off of.
