Julian Edelman was aiming for atmosphere. He hit a double entendre instead, leaving Amon-Ra St. Brown stunned.
On a recent episode of FOX Sports’ Gronk & Jules Show, the former Patriots receiver asked Lions wideout St. Brown a question that needed a roof over it.
“Do you love dome as much as Jared Goff?” Edelman asked, entirely straight-faced.
St. Brown needed a moment.
“Do I love dome? That’s a crazy question,” he answered, before the smile broke and he committed to the bit. “I do love dome. I do love dome. Yes.”
Only then did he throw the segment a life preserver: He loves playing in dome stadiums.
The clarification was the responsible football move. The clip was already gone. It took off on social media, with Edelman later stamping the bit himself by calling St. Brown a dome guy, just like Goff.
Under the slip sat an actual point. St. Brown said he is biased because he plays receiver, and rain, wind, and cold do not help anyone trying to catch the ball. Playing half his games inside Ford Field, he said, is a blessing, and one he has had his whole career. He would not complain if the rest of his games came under a roof, either.
Detroit has made that preference look practical. The Lions opened 2-1, and the aerial game travels cleanly when the elements stay outside. Goff has long been at his best indoors. His top target, it turns out, is right there with him.
Next time, somebody should probably say stadium first.
