A notable former NFL head coach is reportedly a candidate to become the new defensive coordinator of the New Orleans Saints.
The Saints finalized a deal on Tuesday to hire Kellen Moore as their new head coach. Moore will now begin building out his staff, and former Los Angeles Chargers head coach Brandon Staley could be a part of it.
Jordan Schultz of FOX Sports says Staley is a “serious candidate” to be named the defensive coordinator under Moore in New Orleans.

Staley had been linked to the Saints DC job before Moore finalized a deal with the team. Moore just finished his lone season as the offensive coordinator of the Philadelphia Eagles and helped lead the team to a win over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX on Sunday night.
The 35-year-old Moore is now the youngest head coach in the NFL, so it would make sense for him to assemble a staff of experienced assistants. Staley spent three seasons as the head coach of the Chargers from 2021-2023. He was the defensive coordinator of the Los Angeles Rams prior to that.
Staley was with the San Francisco 49ers this season as an assistant coach under Kyle Shanahan.
While Staley only went 24-24 with the Chargers and did not win a playoff game, the 42-year-old still has an impressive resume. It sounds like Moore thinks highly enough of him.
