Brock Osweiler finds criticism of his play ‘hilarious’

Brock Osweiler

Brock Osweiler is already making Houston Texans fans nervous after his first three games as their starting quarterback. He finds that comical.

Osweiler has made a number of questionable throws in the early part of the season, and the result has been four interceptions compared to just three touchdowns. While the 25-year-old must know he hasn’t looked all that sharp, he gets a kick out of critics trying to talk X’s and O’s.

“I think that’s hilarious, to be honest with you,” Osweiler said, per John McClain of the Houston Chronicle. “The critique comes from a whole lot of people that don’t know my read on that play. They’ve probably never actually sat in an offensive meeting in their life, let alone a quarterback meeting in the National Football League.”

You don’t really need to be Vince Lombardi to know the interception Osweiler threw to New England Patriots linebacker Jamie Collins last Thursday was horrible. He had a clean pocket and threw the ball into traffic, and it seemed very likely that he never saw Collins coming across.

Still, Osweiler doesn’t want to hear it from anyone but his coaches.

“That’s why I don’t look at Twitter,” he said. “That’s why – no offense to anybody (media) in here — I don’t watch anything. I don’t read anything. … I feel like I’ve done a great job of progressing in this offense. I feel like I get better every week.”

Osweiler did say he has to improve his ball security, but he could do a better job of holding himself accountable. Part of being a starting quarterback in the NFL is taking responsibility for poor results and dealing with the media. As we learned with his comments about being compared to Tom Brady during the offseason, Osweiler may not have the thickest skin.
