Denver Broncos defensive lineman Matt Henningsen had his 2026 season prematurely end in the most brutal fashion.
Henningsen was carted off the field after getting hurt during an individual drill early in practice on Friday at the team’s training facility in Englewood, Colo. According to 9News’ Mike Klis, Henningsen was later diagnosed with a torn Achilles tendon.

All that rehab. All that work to come back. And Henningsen was having a good camp.
Henningsen was reportedly having a terrific training camp before the injury occurred.
The 27-year-old had been gearing up for his comeback season after tearing his other Achilles tendon exactly one year ago to the day during a joint practice with the San Francisco 49ers. Following a long year of rehab and recovery, Henningsen will have to do it all over again for his other leg.
The Broncos drafted Henngingsen in the 6th round of the 2022 NFL draft. The University of Wisconsin–Madison alum played in every game of both the 2022 and 2023 NFL seasons. He then spent the entire 2024 campaign on the Broncos’ practice squad.
Henningsen will have to wait at least a year before finally playing on an NFL field again.
