The Baltimore Ravens are going to need to prepare themselves to play without superstar quarterback Lamar Jackson, at least for some time.
Jackson left the game early in Week 4 against the Tennessee Titans with an ankle injury, although the official diagnosis was unclear.
But the update came on Tuesday, with Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reporting the news.
“#Ravens QB Lamar Jackson is dealing with a sprained ankle that gives him only an outside chance to play Sunday against the #Falcons, sources say. Jackson could end up missing multiple games based on how rehab goes, but the injury is not considered long-term or surgical,” Rapoport wrote on X.
After the win in Week 4, Ravens coach Jesse Minter said they would wait for more tests, but there “were talks” of Jackson returning to the game. In the end, they stuck with Tyler Huntley, and Baltimore won the game, 24-18.
Jackson was off to a hot start in Week 4, going 15-of-20 for 222 yards with 2 touchdowns before suffering the injury.
Huntley went 8-of-9 for 63 yards with no scores, and Baltimore didn’t score a touchdown after Jackson left.
The expectation is that Huntley will start for Jackson as long as the two-time NFL MVP is sidelined. Huntley has spent six of his seven NFL seasons with the Ravens, and he has made a total of 11 starts during his time in Baltimore as the primary backup to Lamar Jackson.
The Ravens are 3-1 entering a Week 5 Sunday Night Football clash against the Atlanta Falcons, and while there is technically an “outside” chance that Jackson suits up, it will likely be Huntley for some time.
