Broncos release statement addressing Chad Kelly’s arrest
Denver Broncos quarterback Chad Kelly was arrested early Tuesday morning, and the team is not pleased with his latest off-field issue.
Shortly after it was announced that Kelly was arrested for first-degree criminal trespass, the Broncos released a statement saying they are “disappointed” in the former Ole Miss star and are still gathering information about the incident.
Statement from the #Broncos following the arrest of QB Chad Kelly:
“We are disappointed that Chad Kelly was arrested early this morning. Our organization has been in contact with Chad, and we are in the process of gathering more information.”— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) October 23, 2018
While there are not many details surrounding the arrest, the implication is that Kelly entered a residence where he was not welcome.
Kelly, the last pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, was kicked off the team at Clemson before enrolling in a junior college and later going on to play at Ole Miss. He was not invited to the NFL combine due to off-field issues, but he had impressed Denver’s coaching staff enough during the offseason that they decided to move on from former first-round pick Paxton Lynch.
There was a report recently that Kelly might get a chance to start for the Broncos given how poorly Case Keenum has played, but that now seems unlikely.
