Browns trade Cameron Erving to Chiefs for 5th-round pick
The Cleveland Browns on Wednesday traded Cameron Erving to the Kansas City Chiefs for a 2018 fifth-round pick.
Erving was a first-round pick by Cleveland in 2015, but the former No. 19 overall selection has struggled as a pro. He has moved across the offensive line, even playing center, though he was viewed as below-average anywhere he lined up. Erving was looking to play right tackle this season and had been dealing with a calf injury of late.
It’s a good return for Clevleand, which was shopping Erving, recognizing he was a bust on the offensive line. You have to wonder about Kansas City’s talent evaluations if they’re willing to give up a fifth-round pick for a lineman who isn’t very good.
Kansas City is seemingly giving away draft picks at this point. They also traded a 2019 fourth-round pick to the Bills for Reggie Ragland. On top of that, they traded away a third-round pick and their 2018 first-round pick in order to move up and select Patrick Mahomes in the 2017 draft.
The Chiefs must really view themselves as a big contender this season if they are willing to give away all these future assets.
