Bruce Arians explains why Cardinals’ new OC will have trouble
Those expecting the Arizona Cardinals to turn things around offensively under new offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich may have to pump the brakes.
Bruce Arians, the head coach for the Cardinals from 2013-2017 under whom Leftwich learned, cautioned against expecting too much from the team now that Leftwich will be calling plays. The big reason why Arians does not have a lot of confidence in Arizona’s ability to turn things around offensively is because the team’s offensive line is problematic.
More from Arians: "I don't care who's calling plays, nobody’s going to come back there and just all of a sudden flip a switch and make that thing great with no offensive line."

Arizona’s offense is ranked 31st in points and 32nd in yards, so they really can’t get any worse. Nobody’s expecting them to turn into the Los Angeles Rams overnight, but if they can at least get the ball to David Johnson more in creative ways — as Leftwich plans to do — perhaps they can show some improvement. And that’s really all they need to show.
