The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and top wide receiver Mike Evans are reportedly talking about a contract extension.
CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora reports that the two sides are very early in the process, but the two sides are nevertheless talking about an extension.
Evans was the No. 7 overall pick in 2014 and has more than lived up to that draft spot. He has had over 1,000 receiving yards in all of his seasons, and increased his total each year. He also scored 27 touchdowns in his career, including 12 TDs as both a rookie and last season.
The Bucs have an option to pick up the fifth year on Evans’ contract, plus they could use the franchise tag on him twice, meaning they conceivably could own his rights through the 2020 season. But it seems they would rather just lock him up long-term with a contract. The top wide receivers in the sport typically make around $13 million a season in base salary.
