The Byron Maxwell contract isn’t working out too well for Eagles
One of Chip Kelly’s big offseason acquisitions this past summer was veteran cornerback Byron Maxwell, who signed a six-year, $64 million that includes roughly $25 million in guaranteed money.
How’s that working out for you, Chip?
Simply put, Maxwell has been one of the worst defensive backs in the league through the first two weeks of the regular season. The former Seattle Seahawk has two passes defensed, and that’s about it.

Maxwell, 27, spent the first four years of his career in the NFL’s best defense. Playing in Seattle’s system is a lot easier than trying to rescue a Philadelphia defense that ranked 28th in the NFL last season.
In fairness, the Eagles’ offense has put the team’s defense in position to fail. One offensive lineman summed up Philly’s start to the season perfectly after Sunday’s loss to the Dallas Cowboys. The only way the Eagles stand a shot of getting some return on the Maxwell investment is to start stringing together drives and scoring some more points.
Oh, and Maxwell was also tasked with defending Julio Jones in Week 1. We’ll give him a few more games before labeling his contract the worst in football.
