Byron Maxwell declares Dolphins a ‘defensive team’

Byron Maxwell

Byron Maxwell is one of the newer members of the Miami Dolphins, but he already has a strong opinion about the team.

The defensive back has declared the Dolphins a “defensive team.”

“It’s going to win every camp,” Maxwell said of the defense via the Palm Beach Post. “We’re a defensive team. That’s just what it is.”

Maxwell said that he had been winning most of his battles against Dolphins receivers in camp.

But is Miami’s defense succeeding in practice because the team’s offense is weak, or because their unit is strong?

“We can be as good as anyone in the league,” Maxwell told the Post. “It’s just a matter of time. We’re putting that work in and learning chemistry and each other. The sky’s the limit for the group.”

Maxwell was signed to a six-year, $63 million contract by the Eagles last year and they cut him after being disappointed by his play. He is one of Miami’s players expected to be a strong point on the defense, along with Ndamukong Suh, Mario Williams and Kiko Alonso, among others.
