Calvin Ridley at a press conference

We have heard very little about the future of Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Calvin Ridley since stepping away from the team in October to focus on his mental health. On Friday, however, he sent a few tweets that certainly got some people talking.

On Friday evening, Ridley sent a simple message from his Twitter account, proclaiming that “football is life,” using a football emoji in place of the word. It marks the first original tweet from Ridley’s account since he stepped away from the Falcons in October.

Ridley seemed well aware that he was sparking speculation among anxious fans, as he followed up with another tweet, this one simply a cry-laughing emoji.

What does it all mean? Perhaps it signifies that Ridley is planning to resume his NFL career in 2022. Perhaps he’s just having some fun with us all. There is no real way of knowing.

Ridley had an outstanding first three seasons with the Falcons, culminating in a 2020 that saw him put up 1,374 receiving yards and nine touchdowns. One rumor indicated that Ridley and the Falcons may be destined to part ways, but there has been nothing further since then. Perhaps Ridley’s tweets are a sign that we may hear something more definitive soon.
