Cam Newton hurt his ankle during Sunday’s game against the Minnesota Vikings on a play that should not be overlooked when evaluating the quarterback.
The Vikings pressured Newton throughout the game and even sacked Newton for a safety in the first quarter. During the second quarter, Linval Joseph sacked Newton for a 4-yard loss on a first down play from the Carolina 45. Newton exited the game for a play and was replaced by backup Derek Anderson, who completed a pass on second down.
Newton only missed one play before returning, but he was not the same after coming back.
The Panthers barely were able to move the ball, while Cam threw two interceptions after that ankle injury. Cam was 6 of 6 before the ankle injury and just 8 of 16 after it, including the two picks (as of midway through the fourth quarter). Midway through the fourth, Minnesota had sacked him six times.
If you’re wondering what happened to the Panthers’ offense, look at the ankle injury Newton suffered.
