Cam Newton likely out several more weeks, could be placed on IR
Cam Newton saw a specialist this week to determine what the best course of action is with his lingering foot injury, and the good news is doctors are still not recommending surgery for him. However, there is a legitimate chance the Carolina Panthers quarterback will not play again in 2019.
Newton’s foot is expected to need several more weeks to heal, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports. Given that the season is now half over, injured reserve is not out of the question.

Newton opened up about the foot issue earlier this season and said he needs to wait until he is 100 percent healthy before playing again. Lisfranc injuries tend to linger and carry a risk of being re-aggravated, which is what happened to Newton after he suffered the injury during the preseason.
Kyle Allen had played extremely well in four games — all wins — prior to last Sunday’s 51-13 loss to the 49ers, in which he threw three interceptions. While there were previously some updates about Newton that seemed positive over the past few weeks, it looks like Allen may be keeping the starting job for the remainder of the season.
