The league and both teams have been roundly criticized for their handling of Newton after he was hit repeatedly during Thursday night’s game against Denver, particularly a helmet-to-helmet blow he absorbed late in the game. Everyone involved has maintained that the right things were done on all accounts, and the fact that Newton seems to have come out of things okay should work in their favor. There is no denying, however, that it was a bad look for the league as the situation developed.
