Tennessee Titans quarterback Cam Ward is not lacking in confidence despite his uninspiring start in the NFL.
In an interview with Michael Silver of The Athletic, Ward admitted he has not played anywhere near the standards he sets for himself so far this season. He gave his season an “F” so far, but made a bold statement about the best being yet to come.
“I’m not playing how I want to play right now. So, once I play how I want to play, I think the league will be f—ed,” Ward said.
Ward has been very candid about his poor play, as well as the team’s as a whole. He cannot be accused of failing to take responsibility. His former coach even threw him under the bus just before getting fired, so the standards have been made abundantly clear to the quarterback.
Ward is coming off two of his better games, so there are signs that he is growing more comfortable with the NFL. He threw for 222 yards in Sunday’s loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, but put together a 265-yard showing the week before in a comeback win over Arizona. His overall stats are not super impressive, with just three touchdowns and four interceptions, but his confidence certainly has not been impacted.
The Titans host the New England Patriots in Week 7. It will be Ward’s first game under interim coach Mike McCoy.
