Case Keenum called ‘starter’ by Rams coach Jeff Fisher

Case-Keenum

The Los Angeles Rams gave up several draft picks to move up and select Jared Goff at No. 1. Many assume that means Goff will be the team’s starting quarterback, but for now head coach Jeff Fisher is indicating otherwise.

At training camp on Wednesday, Fisher was asked for his assessment of veteran QB Case Keenum’s performance. His response was a bit surprising.

“He made some really good throws,” Fisher said, via Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. “I mean, some really good throws throughout practice. That’s what you expect out of your starter.”

The Rams said back in March that Keenum will be their starter to begin the season, but that was before they drafted Goff. Has nothing changed?

We don’t know what the Rams are saying behind closed doors, but it’s not out of the realm of possibility that they are going to begin their season with Keenum under center. Unless Goff proves in camp that he is ready to start at the NFL level, there’s no reason to risk destroying the confidence of a player you already have so much invested in.

There’s a reason we listed the situation with Goff as one of our top storylines to watch throughout training camp. With the Rams starting fresh in a new city, fans might want to see a fresh face throwing passes. They may have to be patient.
