Report: CBS planning significant raise to keep Tony Romo

Tony Romo CBS

CBS commentator Tony Romo has one year remaining on his contract, and the network is preparing a big effort to keep him on board.

According to Andrew Marchand of the New York Post, CBS is preparing to give Romo a significant raise in the hope that he skips out on free agency and opts to remain with the network. The former Dallas Cowboys quarterback reportedly makes roughly $4 million now, but the network is likely to give him a contract that makes him the highest-paid NFL analyst on television.

CBS could match any offer that Romo receives even if he hits the open market, but they appear determined to ensure that it doesn’t get that far. He has built up a good rapport with Jim Nantz and doesn’t seem eager to leave, but may explore his options.

Romo is probably the most well-liked commentator on TV, and his performance in Sunday’s AFC Championship only raised his profile and popularity. CBS would be wise to do everything they can to keep him.
