Chad Johnson released from jail after apologizing to judge
Chad Johnson only had to serve seven days of the 30-day jail sentence that was handed down to him last week. On Monday, Johnson was reportedly granted an immediate release from jail after he apologized to Judge Kathleen McHugh.
That’ll teach him a lesson.
For those of you who have not followed, McHugh agreed to the terms of Johnson’s plea deal last Monday in the wake of his domestic violence case. As McHugh was speaking to Johnson toward the end of his hearing, she asked him if he has been pleased with the work of his attorney, Adam Swickle. Johnson said that he has, before playfully patting Swickle on the backside. The gesture infuriated McHugh, who then changed her mind and sentenced Johnson to 30 days in jail.
McHugh apparently accepted Johnson’s apology on Monday after ripping him for his history of disrespectful behavior. Swickle also explained that the butt slap was simply a football player’s way of saying “thank you.” While we know that is true, that doesn’t necessarily mean there is a place for it in a court of law. Still, many felt that McHugh overreacted.
Given the recent financial struggles Johnson claims he is having, spending seven days in jail may not have been the worst thing in the world. A free meal is a free meal.
