Chad Johnson was once an extremely wealthy NFL superstar, but the well is starting to run dry for the 35-year-old receiver. At least, that is what he would like the court to believe.
According to TMZ, Johnson has been battling the mothers of his children in an effort to lower his child support payments. In court documents filed in April, he reportedly claimed he now makes only $3,000 per month but still has to shell out $16,525 a month in child support. But that’s not all.
Johnson also claims he has to pay the following in personal expenses: $9,063.24 in mortgage payments, $2,500 for food, $2,650 for car expenses, $3,500 for clothes, $250 for grooming, $5,000 for entertainment and another $1,000. Between all that, some other various expenses, and the child support Johnson claims he is spending $45,982.76.
If he had to keep paying all that while only taking in $3,000 per month, Johnson would be broke in no time. He could also get rid of the insane fish tanks he has in his house and lower that critical “pet expense” payment, but I doubt he wants to do that.
In reality, Johnson has to be making more than $3,000 a month. With all the followers he has on Twitter and Facebook alone he could probably pull down $3K in a single day with some sort of advertising ploy. Having said that, I wouldn’t doubt if he is losing money at a rapid pace. Perhaps his recent jail sentence will motivate him to get his financial situation in order when he’s released.
