Watch: Chargers player flagged for pulling opponent’s hair on punt return
Holding penalties are nothing new in the NFL, but it’s not often that you see a player flagged for tugging an opponent’s hair.
Chargers defensive back Jeff Richards took a hold on a punt return during the third quarter after referees spotted him pulling the hair of Baltimore’s Maurice Canady.
The #Chargers were called for holding on their previous punt return and Jeff Richards is holding, but CB Maurice Canady’s hair. Interesting. pic.twitter.com/wNMgJ83zso

The pull cost the Chargers ten yards on the punt return, and it’s fair to say that he had it coming. It also amused CBS color commentator Tony Romo immensely.
It may surprise you to learn that this has happened before, although Richards wasn’t lucky enough to get away with it.
