One reporter made sure to give Liam Coen his flowers after his first season as head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Coen was a solemn figure after his Jaguars fell short Sunday in the Wild Card round against the Buffalo Bills at EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla. The Jaguars held a 24-20 lead late but failed to stand firm in the final minutes, as the Bills scored a go-ahead touchdown with just over a minute remaining.
After fielding questions on his team’s late-game execution, Coen got some unexpected words of encouragement from one of the reporters in attendance.
“I just want to tell you congratulations on your success, young man,” the reporter told Coen. “You hold your head up, alright? You guys have had a most magnificent season. You did a great job out there today. So you just hold your head up, okay? And ladies and gentlemen, Duval. You’re the one.”

The 40-year-old coach looked like he was fighting back tears as the reporter told him that he was “the one” for Jacksonville.
It’s hard to argue against her stance, based on what Coen was able to achieve in his first season as Jaguars head coach. He led the Jaguars to a 13-win campaign, which is the team’s highest win total since the turn of the millennium.
Coen also had some memorable moments for reasons other than football. Jaguars fans remember him going at San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Robert Saleh. Coen also had choice words for Sean Payton after the Jaguars dealt the Denver Broncos their only home loss of the season.
