Chiefs coach Andy Reid has a blunt message about the Josh Simmons situation

Kansas City Chiefs starting left tackle Josh Simmons remains away from the team as he deals with a personal issue, and head coach Andy Reid has no interest in discussing details of the situation.

Simmons has missed the Chiefs’ last two games because of a personal issue that has been described as “extremely serious.” He was not active for Sunday’s 31-0 win over the Las Vegas Raiders after being ruled out of Kansas City’s Week 6 win over the Detroit Lions just hours before the game began.

Last week, Reid avoided any questions about Simmons and said they should be directed toward Chiefs general manager Brett Veach. On Monday, Reid began his press conference with a similar message and told reporters he would not be discussing Simmons.

“As far as Josh goes, I don’t have any updates for you. Veach is handling everything there, so we just move on with that, alright?” Reid said.

Simmons first popped up on the injury report hours before the Chiefs’ Week 5 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He had an illness designation at that point.

Simmons did not practice at all last week leading up to the game against the Raiders. Patrick Mahomes told reporters that he is “praying” for his teammate.

A former star at Ohio State, Simmons was originally projected to be taken early in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. He fell down the board due to injuries and supposed concerns about his worth ethic. The Chiefs drafted him 32nd overall, and he has quickly become a quality starter at a position of need.

For now, it is unclear when or if Simmons will return.
