Chris Ivory: I am ‘definitely’ a top-five NFL running back

Chris-Ivory

Chris Ivory is well on his way to the first 1,000-yard season of his career, and you could make the case that the New York Jets running back is one of the most underrated players in football at his position. And unless you would place him in the top five of NFL backs, Ivory thinks you have him ranked too low.

In an interview with Brooke Cersosimo of NFL.com, Ivory said he feels he is one of the best running backs in the league but doesn’t get the attention for it.

“I would definitely put myself in the top five,” he said. “That’s how I feel. I feel like I see and do a lot of stuff that goes unnoticed, but people that actually watch the games or watch film, I think they are able to see why I feel this way.”

He has a point. Ivory currently ranks fifth in the NFL with 914 rushing yards, despite missing a game. His seven touchdowns are tied for sixth in the league. But do we hear as much about him as we do about guys like Adrian Peterson and LeSean McCoy? Not even close.

In fact, we hear something new about this disgruntled running back almost every day, while Ivory quietly churns out yards and helps keep the Jets in the playoff hunt. The way he punishes defenders deserves more attention, so we don’t blame Ivory for tooting his own horn.
