CJ Stroud catching heat for his video with Caleb Williams

Texans QB CJ Stroud giving advice to Bears rookie Caleb Williams

C.J. Stroud has struggled to find consistency since his outstanding rookie season, and the Houston Texas quarterback is now getting roasted over a video that showed him offering words of wisdom to one of his peers.

Stroud was named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2023 after throwing for 4,108 yards, 23 touchdowns and just 5 interceptions. He then experienced a sophomore slump last year, and Houston’s offense has continued to struggle this season.

In Week 2 last year, Stroud led the Texans to a 19-13 win over the Chicago Bears. Stroud was wearing a microphone, and the conversation he had with then-rookie quarterback Caleb Williams after the game was captured by NFL Films.

Stroud, who was coming off his impressive first year in the NFL, offered some words of wisdom for Williams.

“Hey, stop taking those hits,” Stroud told Williams. “Learn from those mistakes. Everything that you got, bro, is in you already. You gonna be a hell of a player in this league.”

Stroud has been catching a lot of heat for that video, as many people feel he was acting like a Hall of Famer offering advice to a much younger player. Williams even tried to pull away from the conversation, and many people observed that he did not look interested in what Stroud had to say.

The exchange has gotten more embarrassing for Stroud by the week, as Williams has outplayed the former Ohio State star by a wide margin this season. Stroud has 599 passing yards, 2 touchdowns and 3 interceptions through Houston’s first three games. Williams, who is in his first season under Ben Johnson, has thrown for 715 yards with 7 touchdowns and just 1 pick.

It is entirely possible that Williams will wind up being a better player in the NFL than Stroud. If the two continue on their current paths, Stroud is going to hear about the Williams clip for the rest of his career.
