Cleveland radio host goes off on ‘no-show’ Myles Garrett

Myles Garrett’s latest frustrations with the Cleveland Browns are not finding a very sympathetic audience on sports talk radio.

ESPN Cleveland radio host Tony Rizzo went off on Garrett Monday, one day after the listless Browns lost 23-9 to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 6. Garrett was held without a sack in the game, prompting Rizzo to label him a poor leader and a “no-show.”

“I don’t feel sorry for Myles Garrett. Stop with this crap. He’s not a leader. He’s a hired gun here for money, and he wanted to leave your city and your team. End of story,” Rizzo said. “Myles Garrett was a no-show yesterday. He never plays well against the Steelers — rarely.

“Myles, where the hell were you yesterday? That’s my question. ‘Oh, what goes through your mind when your ears are pinned back and everybody’s getting a bunch of sacks?’ I don’t give a crap how many sacks Myles Garrett has. I’m not here for Myles Garrett. I want to win.”

"I don't feel sorry for Myles Garrett, stop with this crap, he's NOT A LEADER," – Rizz on Myles Garrett's comments after the game.

Rizzo’s point was similar to one many fans made after Garrett voiced his frustration with the Browns’ struggles after the game. After initially demanding a trade during the offseason, he wound up signing a 4-year, $160 contract extension to remain with the team. To many, if Garrett wanted the losing to stop, he should not have taken the money to stay on a bad team.

Garrett is undoubtedly one of the best pass rushers in the NFL, as evidenced by his 106.5 career sacks in nine seasons. However, his leadership has increasingly been questioned in recent months, and all his production has not turned the Browns into a consistent winner. Nobody has forgotten about his trade demand, and his decision to stay felt, to many, motivated by the money. His complaints about the team’s poor play will fall on deaf ears if that is the perception.
