Colin Kaepernick has gone to vegan diet, says he hasn’t lost muscle
Colin Kaepernick has lost a considerable amount of weight since last season, which is understandable for a player who underwent three surgeries and missed most of the offseason program. But does it also have something to do with him switching to a vegan diet?
Kaepernick insists it does not.
According to Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com, Kaepernick confirmed to reporters on Tuesday that he went vegan about nine months ago. However, he claims he has maintained the same body mass since cutting out animal products and feels more happy and healthy.
As Maiocco notes, Kaepernick’s girlfriend Nessa Diab, who stars on MTV’s “Code Girl” and hosts a radio show, recent revealed that the couple is living a vegan lifestyle togther.
“He’s also a vegan with me,” Diab said in June. “We did it together. Because we feel like, it’s true that, I guess, the more animal products you eat and stuff like that, your body becomes more acidic, which allows more diseases to basically breed within you.
“So the more alkaline state that your body is in, the less likely you are to get some type of diseases. The more alkaline, the better you are health-wise, supposedly.”
While Kaepernick says his body mass has remained the same, 49ers head coach Chip Kelly recently confirmed that the QB has lost weight, though Kelly blamed it on not being able to lift as much because of injuries.
It’s difficult for any professional athlete — especially a football player — to have a strict vegan diet and maintain their weight. One star NFL running back said he was trying it a few years back, though we don’t know how it worked out for him. Kaepernick does not seem too concerned about it affecting his football career.
