Cowboys believe Tony Romo would be at risk to break collarbone again

Tony Romo Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys believe Tony Romo would be at risk to break his collarbone for a third time if he were to return again this season.

Romo broke his collarbone in a Week 2 win over the Philadelphia Eagles and missed the next seven games — all losses. He returned to beat the Miami Dolphins on the road, but he re-broke his clavicle on Thanksgiving against the Carolina Panthers.

Despite suffering a second collarbone fracture this season, the Cowboys did not place Romo on injured reserve. Instead they were holding out hopes that they might make the playoffs, in which case Romo could be ready to return. However, that possibility does come with risks.

Matt Cassel is the team’s starting QB in the meantime and led them to a win Monday night over the Redskins. It was the first time this season a quarterback other than Romo won a game for the Cowboys.

The chances of Dallas making the playoffs are slim, but they are existent thanks to the sub-par play across the NFC East.
