Report: Cris Collinsworth still safe on ‘Sunday Night Football’ despite Brees signing
Drew Brees may have decided to sign with NBC to begin as a broadcaster with them in retirement, but that does not mean Cris Collinsworth’s job is in immediate danger.
Collinsworth teams with Al Michaels to announce “Sunday Night Football,” which has become the crown jewel of the NFL each week. The two are highly regarded as a broadcast team, but there has been some thought that Brees might replace Collinsworth.
If that happens, it might not come for a while.
Sports Business Journal’s John Ourand reported Monday that Collinsworth is not leaving the SNF booth for many years.
The New York Post’s Andrew Marchand reported last week that Brees chose NBC over joining ESPN in retirement. Marchand said that Brees could begin by analyzing Notre Dame games and potentially team with Mike Tirico if NBC gets a second NFL game each week.
Brees and Tirico might eventually form the SNF team after a few years, but for now, it seems like Michaels and Collinsworth will continue in their roles. The veteran duo deserve to continue in their roles, as they’re still excellent at what they do.
