Report: Daniel Jones expected to sign with playoff contender
Quarterback Daniel Jones is expected to clear waivers on Monday, and has a clear priority when looking for a new team.
Jones is prioritizing the chance to sign with a playoff contender, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. The quarterback is expected to have multiple options, but would prefer to be in an environment where he will be involved in big games.
Inevitably, Jones will have to accept a backup role if he wants to play for a playoff team. It is not clear which playoff teams might be interested in Jones, but his resume still shows that he has played at a relatively high level in the NFL and has quarterbacked a playoff team. Interest in him should be widespread, especially since he will not have any significant cost attached to him.
We already know of one team that will not be in on Jones, but that team is unlikely to make the playoffs anyway.
Jones has thrown for 2,070 yards this season, with eight touchdowns and seven interceptions. The Giants took on roughly $20 million in dead money to move on from him.
