Danny Amendola reportedly takes another pay cut to stay with Patriots

Danny Amendola will be on the New England Patriots’ roster for a fifth straight year heading into training camp, as the veteran wide receiver has reportedly agreed to take yet another pay cut.

Amendola, who agreed to a reduced the past two seasons, worked out the same type of arrangement with the Patriots again on Tuesday, though he will make slightly more than he did in 2016.

Amendola actually gets an increase in pay over his 2016 salary, but he’ll be making significantly less than the $6 million he was scheduled to make with the original deal his signed back in 2013.

According to ESPN’s Mike Reiss, the Patriots are prepared to have six wide receivers on their roster in 2017 if everyone performs well in training camp and remains healthy. They typically only carry five, but they now have Amendola, Julian Edelman, Chris Hogan, Malcolm Mitchell, new-acquired Brandin Cooks and special teams captain Matthew Slater. Of those six, Amendola was the most likely to go.

Amendola, 31, caught 23 passes for 243 yards and four touchdowns last season. He added 10 catches and another score in the postseason, where he has been one of Tom Brady’s most trusted targets over the past few years.
