Count Darrelle Revis as another player who was shocked at what happened on Seattle’s final possession of Super Bowl XLIX.
Revis was on the field as part of the Seahawks’ 3-corner goal-line package when Malcolm Butler jumped the rub route and picked off Russell Wilson’s pass to seal the game. Even Revis said he was expecting a Marshawn Lynch run and was surprised Seattle threw it.
“I think the run’s coming with Marshawn. I just figured that they were just going to try to pound it with Marshawn Lynch for the touchdown, and they did not and it was in our favor,” Revis said after the game in an interview with ESPN. “For them to make that play call, I feel like that’s a risky play call in that moment.”

Revis then said the team was well prepared for what Seattle might run in that situation.
“Just looking at film study … in the red zone they do a lot of pick plays and a lot of inside routes. Malcolm (Butler) must have been on his studies because he jumped it big time!”
Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll repeatedly tried to explain the call after the game, but few were buying it. Just like Revis, we’re still wondering why the Seahawks didn’t give it to Lynch.
