Chiefs LB Dee Ford literally runs away from Frank Gore (Video)

The Kansas City Chiefs had a number of opportunities to come back against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, but they ultimately came up just short. Part of the reason for that was their inability to stop the run in the second half. Linebacker Dee Ford didn’t help the Chiefs when he literally ran away from Frank Gore.

It appeared Ford could have made a play on Gore in the third quarter when Gore took a handoff inside Kansas City territory and turned the corner for nine yards. Rather than trying to make the tackle or absorbing a block, Ford took a few steps back and turned to start running away from the play. It almost looked like he was about to block his own player for a split second.

I’ll admit I’m no expert when it comes to defensive assignments, but it’s hard to imagine what Ford’s explanation would be for his involvement — or lack thereof — in that play. Missing a tackle is one thing. That was just strange.
