The New Orleans Saints fell to 7-8 with their loss Thursday night, significantly damaging their playoff hopes. The defeat also called into question the job status of head coach Dennis Allen in some circles.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, however, Allen’s job status is thought to be secure unless the Saints completely collapse down the stretch.

“My understanding is that Dennis Allen is in a good spot. Obviously, if it goes horrific at the end of the year, this is always subject to change,” Rapoport said on NFL Network. “One of the reasons is they’re not getting out of where they are anytime soon. … You have a roster that’s getting a little older, getting a little slower. If they’re going to rebuild, they’re going to have to actually rebuild, and it doesn’t feel like that’s something you do with a completely new coach, and you can’t do it next year basically anyway.”
The Saints have a lot of expensive veterans that they cannot really move on from for financial reasons, including quarterback Derek Carr. That alone may give Allen an extra layer of job security.
Allen is 14-18 since taking over for Sean Payton following the 2021 season.
