ESPN must really hate Derek Anderson.
Four years ago, ESPN showed Anderson smiling on the sidelines while his Cardinals were getting crushed by the 49ers during a Monday night game. Anderson’s ill-timed moment of happiness became a national story, especially after he blew up on a reporter who asked about it after the game.
Four years later, it was more of the same.

ESPN was talking during Monday night’s Panthers-Eagles game about how Cam Newton looked injured, and that led them to mention Carolina’s backup option — Anderson. Unfortunately, the moment they decided to flash to Anderson, the Panthers backup happened to be laughing and having a smile on his fast, possibly because of something the referee said.
Regardless of the reason for the smile, it was just a bad look for Anderson because his team was losing 31-7 at the time. I don’t doubt that he takes his job seriously, nor do I feel that laughing means he is not focused or ready to enter the game. I just think this was one heck of a coincidence … and some horrible timing once again.
