Washington Redskins players will likely have mixed reactions to Jay Gruden being fired after a 0-5 start this season, but it is no surprise that Derrius Guice is among those who were sad to see the head coach go.
Shortly after the Redskins announced that they have parted ways with Gruden, Guice took to Twitter to thank Gruden for not giving up on him despite the significant injuries the former LSU star has suffered.
Thank you for never giving up on me and always having my back throughout the course of my injuries! You will be missed! Much love pic.twitter.com/h32RxWYASI

Washington drafted Guice in the second round last year, and he tore his ACL in the preseason and never played in a game during his rookie season. Adrian Peterson then stepped in and rushed for over 1,000 yards, but Gruden made it clear during training camp this year that Guice would be the focal point of the running game. He never got a chance to put that plan into action, however, as Guice needed yet another knee surgery and was placed on injured reserve. He could return later in the season.
Gruden’s infatuation with Guice is the main reason he basically said he had no use for Peterson early in the year, so you can understand why Guice feels a sense of loyalty toward him. The same may not be true of players who believe Gruden let things get out of control this year.
