DeSean Jackson to undergo core muscle surgery, likely out for season

DeSean Jackson Eagles

DeSean Jackson has been battling an injury for several weeks that he attempted to play through on Sunday, and it sounds like that could be the last game the veteran wide receiver appears in this season.

Jackson aggravated his strained abdomen and was forced to leave Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears, but head coach Doug Pederson called the move “precautionary” and said he expected Jackson to return after Philly’s Week 10 bye. However, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that Jackson will need surgery and is unlikely to play again this season.

John Clark of NBC Sports Philly added that Jackson’s latest abdomen injury is worse than the one he suffered in Week 2, as he tore the muscles completely off the bone on Sunday.

That is a huge disappointment for both Jackson and the Eagles, who have won their last two games and are squarely in contention in the NFC East. Jackson caught eight passes for 154 yards and two touchdowns in Week 1, and it looked like bringing him back was going to pay off huge for the Eagles.

The Eagles have been bitten hard by the injury bug this season, though it looked like they were finally getting healthy at the right time. Nelson Agholor will likely be leaned on heavily now that Jackson is not expected to play again in 2019.
