Surprising details emerge on Von Miller’s new contract

The fine print has been finalized on Von Miller’s new contract with the Washington Commanders.

The veteran linebacker Miller’s deal with the Commanders is for one year and $6.1 million, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported on Saturday. Miller, who announced in a great social media post earlier this week that he was headed to Washington, also has a chance to make a total of $10.5 million with incentives.

That is a surprisingly sizable contract for a 36-year-old like Miller who did not seem to have much left in the tank last season. While he did record 6.0 sacks, Miller only had 17 combined tackles and few other meaningful stats to his name over 13 total games for the Buffalo Bills.

Over the last several years, Miller has been hampered by several injuries, most notably a torn ACL suffered in late 2022. He also comes with character issues at this point in his career, having served a four-game suspension in 2024 stemming from a troubling arrest for domestic violence.

But the former Super Bowl MVP Miller’s NFL resume speaks for itself. He is an eight-time Pro Bowl as well as a seven-time All-Pro and can bring a lot of experience to a defense as a 13-season veteran.

Though they made a surprise run to the NFC Championship Game last season, the Commanders’ defense lagged a little bit behind their offense. Thus, the swing on Miller is likely worth taking, especially if he has to perform exceptionally well next season in order to earn the incentives in his new contract.
