Arguably the best offense in football could be getting even better this weekend, as New England Patriots running back Dion Lewis has been practicing and appears set to make his return.
Lewis practiced for the fifth consecutive day on Wednesday, and Ryan Hannable of WEEI.com speculates that could be a sign he will face the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night. Lewis began the season on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, and the Patriots have until next Thursday to decide whether to add him to the 53-man roster or send him to injured reserve.
Lewis suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 9 last year. Prior to that, he was on pace for more than 1,000 yards from scrimmage and had established himself as one of the best pass-catching backs in the NFL. He seemed like a natural fit in New England’s offense, despite Rex Ryan going out of his way to disrespect the veteran.
Tom Brady already has numerous reliable targets to throw to in Rob Gronkowski, Julian Edelman, Martellus Bennett and Chris Hogan, so getting Lewis back would make the Patriots that much tougher to defend.
