The Atlanta Falcons have completed an interview with franchise great Matt Ryan for the newly established role of president of football, the team announced on Friday.
“The leader in this new role will set the vision and identity for our team,” Owner Arthur Blank wrote in a letter shared with fans. “Our new head coach and general manager will report to the new president of football, and they will work collaboratively as a football leadership team on all football decisions. Final decision-making authority will rest with the president of football.”
Ryan, the 2016 NFL MVP and four-time Pro Bowler, spent 14 seasons with Atlanta after being drafted in 2008. He holds franchise records for passing yards (55,767), touchdowns (347), and more. Retired since spring 2024, Ryan currently serves as a CBS Sports analyst, providing league-wide insights.
Blank highlighted Ryan’s leadership, deep Atlanta roots — his family has lived there 18 years — and respected football intellect. The candidacy follows recent front-office changes after a disappointing season.
Reports indicate Ryan may aim to retain his broadcasting duties alongside the role, pending approvals.
A potential hire would mark a homecoming for the Ring of Honor inductee, leveraging his experience to guide the Falcons’ future.
